Like the concerts, the exhibitions in Haut Allier are friendly convivial events. No world-class painters or sculptors, no internationally famous names, but plenty of works by talented artists, sculptors and photographers from the Auvergne and from other parts of France.

Open daily; guided visits Thursdays & Fridays in summer, 5.30 p.m. Some visits with English-speaking guide.

Lavoûte-Chilhac:
Abbaye, Maison des oiseaux. Onrnithological centre.

Hilltop village with dramatic views. Ancient terraces being renovated, impressive castle (no visits)

Romanesque church & cloisters - the finest cloisters in Auvergne, fine mediaeval murals.
